The Importance of the British Masters

Just 5 months on from last years competition it's great to see the British Masters taking place again. With the competition only returning 4 years ago it was very close to disappearing off the European Tour schedule. With many of the worlds top players not involved a lot of people may miss the importance of having a big event take place on home soil.

Losing a well supported event off the European calendar would have been a blow in it's bid to grow against it's more powerful American cousin but for a country with great golfing history it would have been even worse. We see in the press week in week out how things are done in America and behind the scenes golf clubs are still closing at very quick rate here in the UK so hosting such an event can only be a good thing for our game.

The European Tour did a fantastic job getting Tommy Fleetwood to take up hosting duties as his worldwide appeal has grown hugely over the last year with some good results in the majors and a partnership no one will forget quickly with Molinari in the 2018 Ryder Cup.

This weeks event will go much further than crowning a new British Masters champion it will hopefully inspire more people into a game that is trying to change to become more inclusive. With the British Open taking place in Northern Ireland this may be the only chance for many to see the pro's in person this year. These events are vital to the survival of our game.
